June 3, 1944 – December 5, 2021
Raymond graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1963, served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and was a Purple Heart recipient. His obituary also records that he retired from Commonwealth Edison in Rockdale.
The obituary verifies the Marine Corps, Vietnam and Purple Heart facts. A complete DD Form 214 or Official Military Personnel File remains the proper source for unit, rank, dates and a complete medal list.
August 13, 1930 – April 18, 2014
Louis’s obituary describes him as a veteran of the “U.S. Army Air Force” and records his work as a dental technician at Hines Veterans Hospital. It also records military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
This wording follows the obituary. A specific branch designation, rank, unit, service dates or medals beyond that wording should be added only after reviewing his military file.

Jake’s obituary records 40 years at U.S. Steel as a pipe fitter and group leader, retirement in 1986, and service as a trustee of S.O.A.R.—the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees.
His obituary does not state that he served in the military, so this campaign does not make that claim without additional records.
February 28, 1926 – September 17, 2016
Aunt June’s obituary identifies her as Alta June Motta, née Finley. It records her upbringing on the family farm, graduation from Vandalia High School, attendance at Metropolitan Business College, one year of work at the ammunition plant in Elwood, and later work at Abraham Lincoln Insurance Company.
Her obituary’s message of honoring her through acts of kindness fits this campaign’s emphasis on practical service rather than slogans.
Robert identifies Joseph R. Oldani as Uncle Joey. Manhattan Township’s official historical page states that Joseph became Manhattan Township Assessor during the 1980s after spending about four years lobbying for property-tax reform and that he testified twice before the Illinois Senate Revenue Committee.
The verified township is Manhattan Township, not New Lenox Township. A reliable matching obituary and the family recollection that he also worked for veterans have not yet been independently confirmed, so those claims are not presented as fact.
Robert identifies Lori as Joseph Oldani’s daughter and a nurse. That description has not been independently verified from an appropriate public professional source.
With Lori’s affirmative consent, her nursing and family-care perspective can inform public policy on bedside reality, caregiver burden and continuity of care. Her surname, employer, work location and private contact information are not published.
United Steelworkers says SOAR was established in 1985 to involve retirees as activists, advocates and volunteers and to defend Social Security, Medicare, pensions, bargaining, veterans and family resources. Vote Motta 2028 proposes a voluntary Retiree Skills Corps that brings experienced steel, utility, construction, health-care and military retirees into paid or volunteer advisory work without threatening retirement benefits.
We stand with all who served — conventional and unconventional. That includes Vietnam veterans, Gulf War and post-9/11 toxic-exposure veterans, and those who worked under special-access programs including Area 51 and related sites.

The people who ran the plants and lines in Joliet and across Illinois hold irreplaceable knowledge. We formally invite retired ComEd workers and other utility veterans to advise on grid modernization, safety, and workforce training.
Jesse Ventura served six years in the U.S. Navy—four on active duty and two in the Naval Reserve—and served with Underwater Demolition (SEAL) Team 12 during the Vietnam era. He later served as mayor of Brooklyn Park and as governor of Minnesota from January 1999 through January 2003.

Ventura has long argued that war is too easy for political leaders when their own families bear no direct stake. His published proposal calls for elected federal officials who vote for war to designate an immediate family member for military service. Jesse Ventura’s warning resonates with my father’s service. Raymond E. Motta was a Purple Heart Vietnam veteran and a ComEd utility worker. Families like mine should never be treated as an invisible supply of bodies while officials cast war votes without transparent goals, consequences or accountability.
Except for immediate defense against attack, offensive hostilities should require a public, recorded congressional authorization.
Before the vote, publish the legal authority, mission, estimated casualties, financial cost, funding source, allies, risks and exit criteria.
A war authorization should expire after a defined period unless Congress publicly debates and votes to renew it.
Under any generally applicable draft or national-service system, adult children of presidents, former presidents and lawmakers should face the same lawful eligibility rules as everyone else.
Veterans, Gold Star families and currently serving military families should testify publicly before major war votes.
No law should single out Barron Trump—or any named private relative—for punishment. Any service law must be general, constitutional, medically fair and recognize disability, dependency and conscientious-objector protections.
The Constitution divides military authority. Congress has powers to declare war, fund and regulate the armed forces; the President serves as Commander in Chief. The War Powers Resolution was enacted after the Vietnam era to create procedures for the collective judgment of both branches, but disputes over its scope continue.
Federal military policy traditionally requires a firm, fixed and sincere objection to participation in war in any form—not merely opposition to one particular conflict. The belief may be religious or may arise from a deeply held moral or ethical conviction.
Traditional conscientious-objector classification is broader than disagreement with a single president, party, country or military operation.
A qualifying belief need not fit a conventional religious label, but it must be sincere, deeply held and central to the applicant’s conduct.
Some objectors may seek service without bearing arms rather than complete separation from military service.
If Congress and the President authorize a draft, Selective Service planning includes alternative service for conscientious objectors.

Erin Brockovich’s investigation helped expose hexavalent-chromium contamination in Hinkley, California. Her official account says the 1996 resolution paid $333 million to more than 600 residents. The 2000 film brought that story to a mass audience, but the public policy lesson is larger than one movie: read the files, listen to residents, follow the water and never let secrecy replace evidence.
In a June 2026 PBS interview, Brockovich described complaints about secret zoning changes, missing environmental review, persistent noise, water pressure, wells, electricity costs and communities being excluded from decisions. Her central demand is the right starting point: disclose the resource burden before officials approve the deal—not years after construction.
